Assessment.

Assessment by Albert Savill.

In this assessment I will be exploring the creative ways of how text and spoken language works and I will also be giving my views on the creative ways of how text and spoken language works. Even in some parts of this assessment I would like to give out the positive and negative sides on text and spoken language.

Differences and similarities between text and spoken language: Both text and spoken language are different and similar in most ways but first I would like to point out that the main similarity between text and spoken language is that you communicate with both. The main reason I pointed that out is because I find it really creative that you use two or more ways to communicate with people. Some differences are that text is just words but write it in any way you want it like in a piece of paper to write with or mobile phones or social networks to type on the key pad while spoken language is just speaking to the person with your voice in real life or over the phone. With spoken language you can just speak easily without having the trouble to tire your fingers from typing, also these two can benefit and cost you in some ways like in text it gives you more social time with people but also with text you could talk about someone in a negative way and the person could easily screen munch that text for evidence which isn’t good at all. With spoken language it’s just speaking easily it’s more relaxing and simple but there are some bad stuff like spoken language like maybe the tone of someone’s voice is annoying or you can use that voice to make irritating noises. So they both do have cost and benefits.

Creativity with text: Something I like about text language is that it’s really creative. What I mean about that is like the memes, the abbreviations or the emoticons etc… For example you can use punctuation to make an emoticon like a colon and a closed bracket to make a smiley face like this 🙂 and with abbreviations you code certain words because it’s quicker and fun like for example “lol” means “laugh out loud” and “cuz” means “cause.” Basically you write the initials for a 2-4 word sentence and people decode it and get what you’re talking about. I really find this creative because it’s like creating a new language. I would also like to talk about the origin of text. First it started out as writing letters on paper or carving them onto hard material with a sharp object but then developed with computers when you type the text on a keypad then over the years we started texting over mobile phones but the texting on mobile phones became popular in late 90’s or early 2000’s when teenage youth started using it and now we mainly text over social networks like Facebook, twitter and email or over phone people use normal text or BBM( Blackberry messenger) I find that creative because were developing text over the years to advance devices.

Which in the two is easier to use: Both text and language is actually equally easy to use I mean they both got their creative ways and negative ways like spoken language itself is mainly used in real life when you speak to people at school or work or at home with family I mean it is real fun to speak with people in real life but when it’s time to go home or away from those people how are you going to speak to them? Easy by text. Text is really helpful at moments like this when you can’t talk to your friends in anyway, it’s almost like you’re with a communicating device 24/7 just so you can speak to friends and relatives when you or they’re away from you and that’s what I find creative about text because it’s always there when you need to have social time when you can’t see the friend or relative. If I had to pick one to use in the category I would definitely use spoken language. I say this because I’ve had time when I only used spoken language then text language only. With spoken language I was always with my friends having the best fun of all time and when I used text only it was fun at first but then it really gets boring after a while when you only speak to people by text even when you and your friend are free to do anything. So text does get boring but spoken language doesn’t so that’s why I prefer spoken language. I find this creative because I’m comparing two ways of creative communication.

What I like and dislike about text: As you can see I like to mainly talk about text in this topic, I do that because myself and everyone else sees texting as a big thing. What I like about it is that it’s a really easy way to communicate to others when you’re not currently next to them. That’s the only thing I like about it I mean I do find the abbreviations, emoticons and memes really creative but I couldn’t care less about them. This leads to what I dislike about text; I don’t like how your messages can’t send due to bad signal, I find the memes old and pointless just like the hash tags on Facebook and twitter. I also get really bored texting others most of the time I text. That’s mainly why I prefer spoken language in real life because it never gets boring to me, it’s always fun and real like instead of “lol” you can laugh right next to the person and that makes the moment funnier. I do find text creative but with spoken language it’s more fun and creative to show real emotion.

Text closer to spoken language

Relationship between text and spoken language.

both text and spoken language have something obvious in common. You use them to communicate.

with text you’re basically communicating over text on phones or social network sites Lucy as Facebook. The only difference is that you can’t hear the persons voice and you don’t know what emotion the other person is currently in unless they tell you.

with spoken language you’re just speaking to the person in real life or over the phone or Skype. Anything to hear their voice really. With spoken language it’s easier because you just have to speak instead of taking a long time typing the text.
