Living. That’s a hard thing to do in this type of world now. Knowing what it was like in the past when we had cars, the sun was out with no overly tall buildings blocking that sunlight everyday. Now on these days we get no sunlight, can’t meet new people because no one is ever on the streets or anywhere else. They’d rather be home to hide from the depressing look of our world or they’re just too busy in their flying cars to work or to buy food. My only goal in life is to change our world, for the better, for the best. So I’m at home (which is in a flat nearly as big as the Empire State Building) sitting on the sofa with a nice space. Funny enough the inside of everybody’s home seems to be the only nice looking thing in this world. As I just sit on the sofa I look at the window with a view that would of been great if there wasn’t a wide building blocking it. The way I fix that problem is by having holograms installed on my windows and having a custom made view. Usually I like to make it nice and sunny with a view monuments that London use to have before it was all destroyed. So I was just enjoying my view then I hear a knock on my door, I decide to ignore it because I really wanted to rest. Suddenly the knocking became louder and more aggressive by each knock. I still ignore it trying to wait it out but then there was shouting telling me to open the door or we’ll knock it down. I start to panic on the sofa not sure what to do. *bang* *bang* *bang* is all I hear on my door, so scared I can’t move. The door burst open. Evil standing there ready to attack staring me in the eye.

The Olympic games. The games that writes history every four years, the games that required human skills to win the games. It’s not like that anymore. Now the Olympic games have been taken over by cyborgs. Cyborgs that only win by being programmed a certain way, cyborgs that don’t need training to win. The games aren’t the same anymore. It never takes a hard working human who has ambitions and a passion to win. That era is over now, the new era is now a cyborgs.

a soldier on guard behind a car. One standing at the side of the car with another soldier on the opposite side. Another one at the side of the bride controlling the draw bridge and two more at a distance from the other soldiers standing at the main gate. It was a cold day with weather making the day depressing and dull. The man in the car prepared to drive. Soldiers giving him a it-imitating stare leaving him feeling threatened and nervous about driving to the grey dusted old factory with the other pair of guards waiting for him with their guns rested on their arms.

What effect does prejudice have on minor characters in of mice and men?
The prejudice effect that Steinbeck has on the minor characters is that they’re treated poorly with no respect or freedom at all and always under control by the worse people that has a big advantage over them because they’re the boss of the farm they work on. There will also be some talk about the minor characters known as something else instead of their real names using racial slurs or any other names don’t want to be called or known as those names that the farmers make up for them.
With being treated poorly only some of the minor characters are treated poorly. With Crooks he always has to do work with an injured back constantly and he’s mostly called the Negro or the N word by the majority of the farmers that are there. Crooks also gets rejected by the farmers from socialising with them for the fact that he’s black. As Curley’s wife is always getting moaned or shouted at by Curley because she wants to be around the farmers to flirt but that’s a wrong thing to do if you’re married. But even if she’s just being friendly and wanting to socialise she would just get moaned or shouted at by Curley. Some of the farmers also reject Curley’s wife from them because they’re afraid if Curley would use his father’s power to fire the farmer or beat the farmer up himself because he’s an angry character that’s not afraid of a fight. Crooks himself rejected Curley’s wife at one point for no trouble “Maybe you better go along to your house now. We don’t want trouble.”
How the characters get no respect: This almost links up with being treated poorly. With crooks being known as the Negro or the N word, he also gets called those names too I mean he does have a name but instead the farmers call him disrespectful names. “Yes sir. Jesus, we had fun. They let the n***** come in that night. Done pretty good, too. The guys wouldn’t let him use his feet, Smitty says he woulda killed the n*****. The guys said on account of the n*****’s got a crooked back, Smitty can’t use his feet.” This paragraph on page 22 shows how crooks get no respect. All he gets from the farmers are racial slurs. Curley’s wife doesn’t even get that much respect from others herself. Even though she’s known as “A tart” like she is. But even if she wants to be friendly, like I said Curley would have a problem with that even at one point of the book when she was flirting with George in the barn which of course is bad but even if she wasn’t Curley came in and told her to get back to the house so she replies with “you don’t own me Curley.” So she gets no respect from Curley and she feels she has no freedom which I will talk about soon.
No freedom at all. The minor characters I’ve been talking about already looks like they have no freedom at all, but there is more on what I have to say about their freedom. With Crooks you can easily see how he has no freedom. He’s constantly working with probably fewer breaks than the others or no breaks at all. He can’t even own a house outside the farm area; instead he has his own place in the farm area itself in fact that’s his only break from everyone there. Curley’s wife only had freedom before she got married to Curley; she still has some kind of freedom only behind Curley’s back. The kind of freedom she gets is going around the farm talking, socialising or flirting with them. She enjoys doing those kinds of things all the time but not when Curley caught her on the spot doing those things. At one point as I said earlier when Crooks rejected or told her to go home she was fed up with not being allowed to socialise. She said “Well I ain’t giving you no trouble. Think I don’t like to talk to somebody ever’ once in a while? Think I like to stick in that house alla time?” As for Crooks, the only freedom he gets is staying in a barn to rest, read a book or sleep because he’s probably exhausted from working with an injured back.
Under control by the big people. So as you already know everyone is working in a farm of course there’s going to be a boss controlling the business like all jobs or companies. But in this case some people are taking a big advantage of that power over people. Like Curley himself. He is always telling his wife to go home or go away from the men; wouldn’t she just leave him by now? She could but Curley’s father is the boss of the whole farm, Curley is probably loaded with his father’s money and Curley himself can get anyone kicked out of the business and if he can do that to his wife then where would she go? Crooks is under control just like other people, but he’s being used wrong. You can’t work with an injured back. Even if he didn’t have a broken back his not allowed socialising with the other farmers because he’s black. There’s one quote from the book when he has an outburst of being sick of this. Lennie ask Crooks during a conversation “Why ain’t you wanted?” Crooks reply with in anger “Cause I’m black. They play cards in there, but I can’t play because I’m black. They say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all of you stink to me.” In Crook’s outburst it’s not only the boss keeping him socialising, it’s the other farmers themselves rejecting him from them because he is black.
Overall it’s the weak people that can’t do anything about getting treated disrespectfully from almost everyone in the farm. Crooks is black with and injured back gets treated different from nearly everyone in the farm like he’s nothing. Curley’s wife never gets to talk to anyone because of Curley himself being an over protective control freak husband and the farmers are too scared to talk to her or Curley would attack them.

“Why ain’t you wanted?” Lennie ask.
“Cause I’m black. They play cards in there, but I can’t play because I’m black. They say I stink. Well I tell you, you all stink to me.” – page 75
In this quote from crooks he says the reason why he’s never wanted and why he’s treated so bad. He probably says it with built up rage over the time he was treated poorly. He then says “well I tell you, you all stink to me.” What he’s trying to say here is that the white people stink, saying it as a payback, standing up for himself with all that rage, depression building up and waiting to let it out.

Lennie

Lennie, George’s friend is basically a tall, kind and simple person.
“The rabbits we’re gonna get and I, i get to ten ’em” this quotation from Lennie pretty much sums up how he’s a simple/nice person, he’s a grown man who wants to tend rabbits like a child would want to do.
Lennie: “She’s pretty.”
George: “Lennie! Listen to me, God damn it! Don’t you even look at her! I don’t care what she says or what she does, she’s a rat trap if I ever seen one.” This one conversation between lennie and george shows that lennie is simple. He has no idea that curleys wife is bad news and he was already complimenting her so he would most likely get into trouble if curleys wife flirts with him.
The purpose with lennie’s character is that it was hard for people with mental problems to go through life back in old days because back then most people wasn’t understanding and the bad people would have a problem with people with mental problems just like Curley did.

The 1930’s depression was caused by the stock exchange crash leaving thousands of people unemployed

The language device in my poem strengthen its meaning because it explains the meaning using key words like sun, life, him and others. Wilfred Owen shows strong emotions in this   poem because you can tell he is against war because the only thing that happens is people dying.
